Questions

I'd love to work with you! How does this work, and what should I do first?

Fantastic! I'm so excited to connect with you!

Our first step is to book in a consultation call. You're welcome to book in a time that suits you here, this chat gives us a chance to get to know each other a bit better and for me to understand more about your business and the sorts of branding photographs you'd really love to have from your dreamy photo-shoot!

Where in the world are you?

I am based between Nottingham, the Lake District, and Wiltshire, but love to travel to work with my clients in the places that are meaningful to them. Already this year I’ve photographed as far north as the Highlands of Scotland, and as far south as Hayling Island near Portsmouth. So if you’d like to work with me to capture photographs of you, your loved ones, or your business, let me know where you are and I’m bound to be not a million miles away from there before long!

(Please note that travel expenses are not included).

I'm itching to make a start, when can I expect us to shoot?

The lead time for a shoot is typically 6-8 weeks but there's plenty to do in the meantime! The planning process is a brilliant opportunity to step back, review and re-envision for your business, it's something to really make the most of.

What process will you take me through to understand my business?

Creating beautiful branding photographs is not a "show up and shoot" kind of job, these images are the result of discussions about your story, your business, your hopes and dreams, inspirations, aspirations and what makes you, YOU. Working with me, you'll be walked through a process that includes an in-depth questionnaire to get you thinking about your business and what you'd like your photographs to represent. We'll also set up a joint Pinterest board to share inspirations and create a mood board for your photo-shoot. And we'll have a planning call to talk through how we'll turn these exciting ideas into a fun and fabulous photo-shoot for you.

I'm super nervous at the idea of being photographed, can you help me so I won't look like a rabbit in the headlights in my images?

Of course! I'm used to working with entrepreneurs who are nervous at being in front of the camera, this is my jam! The most important thing is that you let me know that you're nervous about having your photograph taken so that I can structure the shoot to best suit you. And I promise I'm not going to shove a camera in your face right away!

Where will the photo-shoot take place? My office doesn't look like everyone else's on Instagram...

Tell me about it! Your photo-shoot will take place wherever you feel best reflects you and your business. We'll chat about this in more detail during the planning process, but there are so many possibilities to choose from! Perhaps you have a local coffee shop where you meet your clients, or like to catch up on some admin with a giant coffee and slice of delicious cake? Or maybe you love to catch the last rays of afternoon sun from the terrace in your back garden with your four-legged friend by your side? Or perhaps you love the architecture and the hustle and bustle of the city? Or maybe a spot of yoga in a quiet corner of your local park is where it's at for some relaxation?

We'll talk through the themes that are important to you and what locations will most suit your brand vision and we'll create a plan from there. Some of my clients have chosen to hire a venue for all or part of their shoot, if that sounds right for you I'll be sure to help you choose a gobsmackingly gorgeous space!

What should I wear to my photo-shoot?

There's no right or wrong answer to this question, but getting the styling right is one of the best things about a shoot. Clothes are a wonderful way to express who you are and what you're about. I've seen statement skirts, jazzy jackets, and even taco socks, yes, for real!

But really it all comes down to what makes you feel confident? What makes you feel like the badass business owner you are? Who is your ideal client and what would you be happy for them to see you wearing? We'll talk through this in more detail during the planning process and I've got plenty of tips and tricks up my sleeve. Your shoot is your runway, my friend!

What about hair and make-up? I can never get my eyeliner flicks even...

Join the club! Being in front of the camera is not always easy, but leaving your hair and make-up to the experts is a great way to take some of the pressure off, and to help you feel at your most confident in front of the lens. The good news is that a photo-shoot with me includes having a professional hair and make-up artist on hand for the duration of your shoot to help keep you looking fantastic and funky fresh throughout the day.

What should I bring with me to my photo-shoot?

It's really helpful to have a few props to augment your photo-shoot. Think about items that are particularly relevant to your work and business and remember that you want your clients to see you at your best! There may well be a few alternative ideas that come up as a result of the planning process, but as a basis it's a good idea to have some standard props, including:

  • Your laptop or tablet
  • Your phone
  • Any particular pens or stationery
  • Favourite notebooks
  • Relevant books to your business or brand vision, or any books or magazines that you feel represent your values and aesthetic

I have literally no idea how to pose, I'm so awkward! Can you help me?

Good news, my friend, it's not your job to know how to pose in advance!

Do you want even more good news? I'm not going to ask you to do anything that feels really weird and unnatural. As part of your photo-shoot experience you'll receive my 'Personal Branding Photo-Shoot Guide' complete with easy posing tips. Throughout the shoot I'll ask you how you might use this particular space and we'll make minor tweaks as we go for the most flattering poses on camera. There are so many super simple tips and tricks we can use to make sure you're pulling poses that pack a punch!

I want to book a shoot but I'm worried about Covid-19 and how this will affect things.

I'm so excited to be back doing the job that I love but it's completely natural to be unsure how Covid-19 will impact on your shoot. I'm fully vaccinated (including all the boosters I'm entitled to). If you have any queries or concerns about Covid, please get in touch and I'll be glad to help; I want your photo-shoot experience to be as fantastic and as comfortable as possible.
